4D Golf | Dunes Challenge Hole 9 Guide

Introducing the 4D Golf Dunes Challenge Hole 9: Known for its formidable difficulty, I’ve devised a winning strategy to conquer this challenging course. Join me as I unravel the secrets behind mastering this daunting hole, turning obstacles into opportunities on the green.

Guide For Dunes Challenge Hole 9 In 4D Golf

Layout

The arrangement comprises:

– An incline sloping upwards.
– A sand mound located at the base of the slope housing the tee.
– Another sand mound positioned at the peak of the slope containing the hole.
– Three cube-shaped containers with exposed northern sides arranged along the slope.

Slope

The incline is too steep to be traversed entirely with a forceful swing, even when executed from the precise southern edge at the base.

Boxes

The trio of cube-shaped boxes is visible here, aligned with the camera’s plane and casting shadows. Only the first two are necessary for ascending the slope; the third one can be bypassed.

How To See The Boxes

How can you even locate the boxes accurately? I keep missing them!

By default, the view provides an overview of the level’s slope shape, but it doesn’t pinpoint the exact positions of the boxes. Switching to the volume view reveals the precise locations of the boxes, although they may be obscured by the slope. To address this, press the 1 key to deactivate slice rendering, showing only shadows. This ensures that the slope doesn’t obstruct your view in volume mode. Now, you can navigate the slope in all three dimensions without concern for objects at varying heights appearing and disappearing as you move. Their shadows remain visible regardless of your position.

Sand Piles

Each sand pile resembles a tesseract, featuring a larger base and a smaller top. The lower one is largely negligible as the ball begins there. However, the upper one poses a potential challenge, as the ball could roll off it and descend back down the slope if not handled carefully. In the image, the lower sand pile is depicted with its edges highlighted in red, where the “center” cell denotes the top and the “outer” cell represents the bottom. The top face of the “center” cell corresponds to the top surface of the entire tesseract. The top sand pile mirrors this structure but includes the hole positioned at the center of its top face.

The Plan:

At the beginning of the level, adjust your aim slightly to the right and apply a stroke slightly more than 4/5 charged. This will position the first box directly in your line of sight, and the ball will likely land either on the Northwest edge or near the North face of the box. During testing, I successfully landed on the edge with this putt. Skipping the second and third boxes from this edge is challenging with a fully charged putt, as it barely misses the top of the slope. If you’re unlucky, you might land too close to the West face of the box, requiring a small stroke towards the North face. With precise execution, you’ll land near the middle of the box or on the North face. You can approach quite close to the West face without issues; it’s only when you’re right on it that you’ll face difficulty reaching the second box directly.

Next, switch to volume mode and deactivate slice rendering to see beyond the slope. Your perspective should resemble this when facing North, toward the slope.

For this stroke, imagine North and Up as the same direction, and South and Down as the same, given the slope’s orientation. You’re aiming Up and North toward the hole. Putting the ball up the slope is akin to throwing it straight up in real life; it will visibly follow a similar curve. Aim Northwest and apply another 4/5 charged stroke to reach the second box. If you’re positioned near the North face or on the Northwest edge, use less than a 4/5 charged stroke to avoid overshooting. Your landing spot should be in the middle, near the South face of the second box.

Return to the default view and re-enable slice rendering. Adjust your viewing angle to eliminate all shadows except for the third box directly ahead. Aim directly North and employ a full-power stroke. You should land at the top of the slope next to the tesseract with the hole on top, unless the ball was too far South in the box. It might be feasible to aim the ball directly into the hole from this position. If you suspect the ball is too far South in the box, revert to volume mode with slice rendering off and repeat the previous step to reach the third box, but aim Northeast.

From this point, press H to target the hole directly and strike the ball with slightly less than a 2/5 charged stroke. The ball should find its way into the hole!
