Basic Build Guide For Instruments Of Destruction

It’s essential to acknowledge that the game is continuously evolving during its active development phase, meaning changes will occur leading up to v1.0. I’ll keep this guide updated accordingly. However, let’s begin with something straightforward for now. For those inclined towards missions, this guide will still offer valuable insights, though it doesn’t cater to a specific vehicle type. More diverse and advanced guides are in the works, and some are already available on the wiki: Advanced Build Guide

Getting Started:

  1. Launch the game and navigate to Sandbox mode. This is the ideal starting point if you aim to construct contraptions for experimentation and enjoyment.
  2. Begin by selecting the Horizon Cab.
  3. Ensure that Mirroring is enabled (shortcut key: M). This feature significantly streamlines the building process, as most of our creations will utilize mirroring.

Constructing a frame with 6-way connectors:

To begin, select the 6-Way piece from the Frame Split category and affix one to each side of the cab. To extend the sides further, incorporate additional 6-Way splits. Utilize your Right Mouse Button to hold and drag, enabling you to orbit the camera around the highlighted piece. Employing the 6-Way pieces at this stage lays the groundwork for incorporating finer details later on.

Integrating wheels:

At this stage, we have several options for enabling motion. In this guide, we’ll incorporate basic powered wheels to propel our vehicle. Navigate to the Wheel category and opt for the Powered Large Wheel. Position these wheels at both the front and rear ends of the vehicle’s sides.

Testing our creation:

To evaluate your creation, either press the Spacebar or navigate to the top menu bar and select Play. Congratulations, we’ve completed the basic setup! Utilize [W] [A] [S] [D] keys to maneuver: forwards, backwards, left, and right. To ensure our progress is saved, access the Vehicle menu (shortcut key: V) and select Save Vehicle. Proceed to the next section to explore additional advanced options for your vehicle, including Steering Wheels, Suspension, and a Plow!

Improving our basic vehicle:

Before integrating suspension, it’s necessary to remove the wheels placed in the preceding section of the guide. To achieve this, highlight the wheels and press [X] or Del to delete them.

Incorporating suspension:

Navigate to the Joint category. To introduce suspension to our vehicle, select the Side suspension piece and affix them to the sides of the cab where the previous wheels were located.

Adding steering wheels:

Now, let’s reintroduce the wheels, but this time with two different types.

1. Navigate to the Wheels category and select the Powered Large Wheel, as used at the beginning of the guide. However, this time, only add them to the rear of the vehicle.

2. For the steering wheels, Version 0.109 offers two options: Steering Large Wheel and Combo Large Wheel. In this tutorial, we’ll use the ‘classic’ Steering Large Wheel. If you prefer, you can utilize the Combo Large Wheel to make your vehicle Four Wheel Drive.

3. Position these wheels at the front suspension pieces of the vehicle.

Incorporating a Plow:

Before adding the Plow object, we’ll need to insert a 6-way connector piece between the front components.

1. To achieve this, select a 6-way connector piece and position it between the front pieces.

2. Next, navigate to the Utility category and choose the Plow object.

3. Attach the Plow to the front 6-way piece added in the previous step.

Testing our enhanced creation:

To evaluate your upgraded vehicle, simply press the Spacebar or select Play from the top menu bar. You’re all set! Use [W] [A] [S] [D] keys to navigate: forwards, backwards, left, and right. Stay tuned for an upcoming guide where we’ll delve into even more advanced options for our vehicle, including Thrusters, Weapons, Magnets, and Joints.
