Endless Mode Tips & Tricks For Mullet Mad Jack
HOW TO UNLOCK ENDLESS MODE
To unlock it, you need to successfully complete the game on any difficulty level.
HOW IT OPERATES
In Endless mode, stages are randomly selected from any point in the main campaign, except for boss encounters. All hazards are accessible from the first floor, and all upgrades can be obtained from the beginning, with a few exceptions.
You won’t have access to any shop upgrades, such as rerolls, and you can’t carry items over from previous deaths, except for weapon tiers. However, all weapon tiers are accessible, contingent upon owning the first-tier version. At the start of each run, you’re presented with a choice between three Level 1 weapons.
Every ten floors, one second is deducted from your maximum life. This won’t significantly impact gameplay if you’re aiming for the 30-floor achievement, as you’ll only lose a maximum of about 2 seconds. However, beyond floor 50, this penalty becomes more severe.
Additionally, since you can only have a maximum of 10 upgrades (9 plus your weapon), every 10 floors, the oldest upgrade, excluding your weapon, disappears. Once removed, it returns to the shop’s item pool, giving you another chance to obtain it.
Note: Lollipops are unavailable as they negate the reduced life mechanic.
HOW TO BEGIN: EARLY LEVELS
A quick note: I’ve primarily tailored this guide towards reaching higher levels (60+), but many tips can still be useful for those aiming for floor 30.
The early floors, roughly from below floor 23 to around floor 30, maintain stability as upgrades cycle less frequently out of your inventory, your health remains close to maximum, and gameplay resembles that of the main campaign.
When starting a run, prioritize acquiring a weapon you’re comfortable with and upgrading it. While any preferred gun will suffice, I’d caution against the plasma rifle due to its unconventional recoil, which may impede your progress. However, feel free to use it if it suits your playstyle. This caution stems from the fact that your weapon remains in your inventory throughout, eliminating concerns about item cycling in later stages due to delayed weapon upgrades. (For those aiming for floor 30, this priority isn’t as crucial.)
(NEW UPDATE): In the latest patch, skipping upgrades no longer removes items from your inventory. Thus, if you acquire potent items (like bulldozer, ice grenade, and slo-mo), feel free to forgo upgrades!
Regarding non-weapon upgrades, concentrate on securing kill bonuses such as envirokill or defensive enhancements like laser jamming or lava boots. Since your health is generally near maximum during these levels, most upgrades will function effectively.
NAVIGATING FLOORS 30-60
Floors 30 to 60 present unique challenges, as playstyles can diverge significantly here. Your health isn’t too low, but it’s not close enough to maximum for many upgrades to have significant impact.
By now, your weapon should be fully upgraded, and items will begin cycling out of your inventory into the shop. Your objective here is to experiment and determine what upgrades you prioritize, as many items become more viable due to reduced HP. Kill bonuses become less critical as your health isn’t sufficient for them to carry substantial weight.
Always ensure you have an item for a finisher, as it can serve as a crucial lifeline if things take a turn for the worse.
Recommended items:
- Item Magnet/Visor: Simplifies item collection, reducing the need to constantly brush against walls, thereby enhancing room-to-room flow.
- Enemy Visor: Allows you to see through walls, minimizing the risk of shooting doors or entering vents with potential enemy threats nearby.
- Slo Mo Vest: Activates frequently without becoming a nuisance, providing valuable slow-motion effects.
- FastSlide: Enhanced momentum from dashing off ramps and reduced time spent on ramps/vents helps manage time (both total and HP-related) more efficiently.
- Safety items like Lava Boots and Laser Jamming, along with weapon modifiers like Exploding Bullets, are highly recommended for added security.
