Dystopika – Beginner’s Basics Guide

Navigating the intricacies of Dystopika can be both exciting and challenging, especially for those new to the dystopian city-building genre. From constructing diverse buildings to unlocking essential features and designing eye-catching billboards, mastering the fundamentals is key to thriving in this virtual dystopian world. This guide delves into the essential elements of Dystopika, equipping you with the knowledge to embark on your journey and create a thriving urban landscape.

Beginner’s Basics For Dystopika

New Buildings

Let’s dive right in — every city needs buildings, right? It’s easy to construct buildings in Dystopika!

To begin, click the icon located in the top left corner to open the building menu.

Next, select a district. Districts consist of various types of buildings. High-class areas like New Eden feature more elaborate structures, whereas districts such as Lowtown and CBD offer simpler, lower-class buildings. OMEGA corp and ALPHA corp each provide a unique building type.

Choose a district and hover your mouse over a plot of land. Click to place a building. Use the right mouse button (RMB) to cycle through available building options.

Once a building is placed, smaller, non-interactive buildings will automatically appear around it. Use the icon below to illuminate them with advertisements and lights!

But wait — our buildings are too small! A city isn’t complete without skyscrapers. No problem! Simply click and hold the top of a building, then drag it upward to your desired height. This action will also alter the building’s shape.

You can also rotate buildings by clicking and holding the center of a building and dragging your mouse left or right. If you need to relocate a building, just click and hold the bottom of it.

Decorations

Congratulations on establishing some buildings in your city! However, they might look a bit plain and uninspiring. Let’s give them a touch of flair!

Start by clicking the lamp icon located beneath the building icon.

Next, click the downward arrow to reveal a menu of decorations.

Don’t worry if the decorations you see aren’t everything. You can unlock more by constructing additional structures and expanding your city!

Let’s delve into a detailed overview of the various types of decorations available:

Billboards

Billboards are essential in any dystopian cityscape! Here’s what you can do with them:

  • Toggle through advertisements.
  • Import custom images.
  • Cover buildings from top to bottom.

To place an advertisement, select a size (S for small, M for medium, L for large, XL for extra large) and click on the side of a building. Your chosen billboard will display with a pre-selected advertisement!

You can cycle through different ads on a billboard by right-clicking (RMB).

And here’s the exciting part — you can import your own custom images from your computer. Yes, any image!

Fancy a cat? Absolutely!

How about an inspirational quote? Of course!

Even a #SAVETF2 poster? You got it! (Valve, please fix your game.)

Logos

Dystopika features numerous logos in a unique, fictional language exclusive to its world. They come in various shapes, sizes, and colors.

Alpha Corp and Omega Corp, available in the building menu, each come with their distinct logos.

Similar to billboards, logos are placed on building sides as neon signs, not for advertising but as distinctive symbols.

Text Signs

Text signs in Dystopika resemble corporate logos but can be customized to display any word or sentence you desire.

Miscellaneous

Miscellaneous decorations are entirely unique and serve specific functions.

Small landing pads host flying cars taking off regularly, while larger ones feature blimps adorned with advertisements drifting overhead. Factories emit smoke, antennae serve as decorative elements, highway indicators generate substantial traffic, and hologram projectors produce 3D light images like a hand grasping geometry or a swimming whale.

These decorations add character and functionality to your evolving urban landscape in Dystopika!

Unlocking Objects

Certain objects in the game remain locked until you achieve specific goals. Many of these goals involve constructing new buildings, while others require you to earn achievements.

To unleash the game’s complete array of tools and features, immerse yourself in city-building! Create numerous buildings to earn items, adorn those buildings with decorations to unlock achievements, and when you’re ready, simply click the icon below to demolish your city and start anew!
